Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation– also called Physiatry  – is a branch of medicine that specializes in diagnosis, treatment and management of disease primarily using "physical" means (such as physical therapy and medications). Essentially, physiatrists (fizz eye'uh trists) specialize in a wide variety of conservative treatments (nonoperative) for the musculoskeletal system (the muscles and bones) and do not perform surgery.

At Kadlec Neuroscience Center, our physiatrists are experts at diagnosing and treating pain; restoring maximum function lost through injury, illness or disabling conditions; treating the whole person, not just the problem area; providing non-surgical treatments; and working not only on treatment but also prevention.

Physiatrists treat a wide range of problems that affect the musculoskeletal system. The following is a list of some commonly treated:

  • Low back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Acute muscle and ligament injuries
  • Acute and chronic pain
