If this is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
At Kadlec Emergency Departments (EDs), patients are treated by providers who are certified in emergency medicine. Hospital and standalone EDs are set up to focus on medical emergencies, not routine health care.
You should go to the ED if a person or unborn baby has a life-threatening emergency or could be permanently disabled from an illness or injury.
If you go to the ED for a problem that is not an emergency, it could cost more than going to a doctor's office or a walk-in clinic and may take longer to be seen. A trip to the ED for an earache, for example, may cost three to four times as much as it would at your doctor's office.
Is it really an emergency?
Go to the ED if you think you are having a medical emergency or call 911. That's what the ED is for. Otherwise, call your doctor's office first, or go to a walk-in or urgent care clinic.
